Dear Lakeland Habitat Supporter,

Through the combined efforts of our local community, volunteers, and individuals like you, Lakeland Habitat for Humanity has been able to provide habitable homes for families throughout Polk County. We have seen lives dramatically changed and hearts forever touched. Building a home not only offers stability, but is gives a family a sense of dignity and pride. This was only made possible by Your support. Lakeland Habitat for Humanity say’s Thank You.

We look to the future holding vast to the ideals of a better tomorrow. We look at the children not of tomorrow, but we grasp the hand of the child of today. Understanding the state of the economy, our hearts go out to those who are facing financial hardships. Even as you read this letter, there are yet still children who do not have the privilege to sleep in their own bed. They share a bed meant for one, but it is shared with two other siblings because of insufficient rooming space. Due to lack of sleep, the child’s ability to succeed academically is compromised. A peaceful nights rest is something that some children will never know.

As parents we place all of our strengths and efforts in affording our family, especially our children, a chance to grow and cultivate in a safe, clean environment. I know for some of us it is hard to imagine growing up with no heat in the winter or no cool air in the summer, but for some children and families this is a fact of life. Having to deal with broken windows, doors that do not keep the elements out, and kitchen appliances that are without hope, families have to deal with dilemmas such as this everyday. No child should be subjected to this type of living environment. For some families this is their plight.

A donation to Lakeland Habitat will give families the prospect of a better tomorrow. Having not to be concerned with the safety and well-being of their children’s living conditions, parents can now focus on things like a college fund for their children.

At this very moment the lives of three families are getting ready to change. The dream of better living conditions has finally come true. The children can now rest in knowing they are in a safe habitable environment. A dream is now becoming a reality. This is only possible with your support.

Not all families are in need of a new home, but there are some families who live in homes which need minor repair, but because of low-income they can not afford home improvements. The Lakeland Habitat Restore affords families and public to purchase household items such as windows, doors, paint, nails, flooring and other household objects. Once you donate to the Restore, it not only helps you find a new home for unwanted or unused items, but also provides us with the inventory we need to resell to the public. Your donation also helps the environment by keeping usable goods out of landfill

               Lakeland Habitat Restore

As we continue to brave the economy, let us not forget about the children and families who may not be as fortunate as we. There is still work to be done, however, and families to be helped.

I am only one, but I am one.  I cannot do everything, but I can do something.  And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.  ~Edward Everett Hale

Lakeland Habitat for Humanity only exist because of people like you who take the time out of your busy schedule and come to the aid of others. It was once said by an unknown that, “Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something”. It is with that attitude, we find ourselves coming together with people from all walks of life. I can not prick the finger of another and hope to see green or purple blood. If I prick the finger of my neighbor I will see the same color blood that came down the side of Christ on calvaries cross. As we already know, when Jesus died, he FREELY GAVE  his life for ALL mankind.

Lakeland Habitat for Humanity has developed a new website dedicated to Lakeland Habitat Restore. The Restore is a home improvement center that sells quality new and recycled items at a fraction of the common cost. The store receives new inventory weekly. You’ll find items such as laminate flooring, ceramic tile, cabinets, plumbing supplies, lighting solutions, building materials and more. Shopping at the ReStore not only benefits you, but it also helps the environment. Over the past two years, the ReStore has recycled nearly 400 tons of material, keeping it out of our local landfills. And ReStore proceeds go back into building new Habitat houses.

Donating to the ReStore not only helps you find a new home for unwanted or unused items, but also provides us with the inventory we need to resell to the public. Your donation also helps the environment by keeping usable goods out of landfills!

Please bring your donation to the ReStore, located at 1317 George Jenkins blvd. Lakeland, FL 33815.

A World of Hope

“A Campaign of Lakeland Habitat for Humanity”

Hope is defined as the belief of a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one’s life. It is the feeling that what is wanted can be had, or that events will turn out for the best. It is with that assurance that Lakeland Habitat for Humanity has implemented a campaign to bring optimism and hope into the deserving lives of families in our community.

A World of Hope Campaign will with the aid and support of community partners provide shelter to at least 200 additional Habitat families within the next five years. One hundred of these homes will be built here in our local communiy which will sheter at least 650 children and impact the lives of  more men, women and children in the years to follow. The remaining homes will be built from our contributions and tithes to Habitat International in the International Community.

The campaign will also rehabilitate existing homes and build new homes in esteemed, distressed Lakeland  neighborhoods and sell the homes to Habitat families. A World of Hope Campaign will allow us to help support the regeneration of Lakeland communities through in-fill building and extending our “A Brush with Kindness” home repair program, which makes the homes of minimal-income homeowners safer and decreases the likelihood of the home being abandoned.

In this effort we will develop a mixed-income community that includes energy efficient homes, open green spaces, the use of alternative energy and access to amenities including: schools, churches and public transportation.

Understanding we can not combat this effort alone, but it is with the combined efforts of our supporteres that we can only give deserving families A World of Hope. Donations and gifts help ensure stable housing for hundreds each year. Support our mission today by supporting Lakeland Habitat for Humanity with a donation or gift today.

A Gift of Home

Let us BUILD A HOUSE ONLINE! A gift of home will help children across the Lakeland community live decent affordable homes. Make a lifetime impact on the families we serve and the communities in which they live.

A Brush With Kindness

Lakeland Habitat’s A Brush With Kindness seeks to bring volunteers together to live out their faith and values by helping low-income homeowners restore their homes so that they can continue to live in a safe, decent and affordable home. Repairs vary in expense based on the size of the project and the extent of repair work to be done. Sponsorships are $3,000 and we put together enough sponsorships to cover the costs of repairs.

A World of Hope

“A Campaign of Lakeland Habitat for Humanity”

As we quickly approach December 25, we find ourselves being consumed with the hustle of the season.  We rush from store to store in an attempt to find a nice cardigan or pearl earrings advertised on television, we often times get so bogged down until we have no strength to even take the items out of the car once we arrive home. We sigh relief once we walk into our homes, but we quickly realize we forgot to purchase Aunt Sally a gift so we rush back to the car, speed to the local department store, all the while hoping and praying they did not close. To your surprise all entrances and exits are securely locked. How many times has this happened to you?

Although it may be cliché, love IS the greatest gift you could ever give. The Lakeland Habitat for Humanity would like to first extend to you and your family a very Merry Christmas!  We hope and pray something said or done by our team has inspired you to reach out and lend a hand to someone who may be in need this holiday season.

We are asking you to look within yourself and think of a time when you needed not just a hand out, but a hand up. Lakeland Habitat is here to extend that hand up to someone who may be in need. The question may be posed, “What can I do to help?”  The Lakeland Habitat for Humanity Organization has several different programs in which we all can contribute.

Your online donation will ensure Lakeland Habitat has all they need to aid the families who rely on their services each year. Whether your donation is great or small, we are still appreciative.

Perhaps you may not be able to give financially at this time, but you still would like to contribute.  You can become a Lakeland Habitat Volunteer. Our volunteers are the back bone of the organization. They work as a team not only when constructing a home, but also working different functions put forth by Lakeland Habitat.

Lakeland Habitat also offers a program to aid low-income homeowners repair and maintain their homes. A Brush with Kindness uses volunteers, donated materials and no-interest loans to make repairs affordable, helping low-income homeowners continue to live independently and securely in their homes. A Brush with Kindness is about connecting people and restoring homes through simple acts of kindness so that home owners can once again live in a safe and decent home.

Big or small your contribution is greatly appreciated!!!!

With poverty rates becoming increasingly lofty, the US has become home to over 100 million homeless people. These rates continue climbing as one third of the people in the US are having difficulty paying their housing bills.  Millions of families are forced to live in poor housing conditions which are often unsafe and unsanitary. This housing problem was recognized as a potential epidemic when it was first dealt with in the 1970’s. Now, Habitat for Humanity is among the most widely respected charities in the world.

Habitat for Humanity is a Christian housing ministry founded in 1976. People from every race, color, and creed are invited to become part of the Habitat movement through donation and/or volunteer work.  Read the rest of this entry »
