Habitat of Lakeland Blog

Lakeland Habitat for Humanity non-profit Christian housing ministry that helps to eliminate poverty housing.

There are numerous top charities out there today, and Habitat for Humanity is definitely among their ranks. The Habitat for Humanity program, in a nutshell, provides housing opportunities for low-income families. Considering the sheer number of people involved in its growth, it is of little surprise that this program has become so effective.

This charity is especially successful because those who benefit from it are expected to, in a sense, pay it forward. Individuals who are approved to receive a home through Habitat for Humanity are required to serve at least 350 hours of community service directed toward the growth of the program and/or towards the building of their own home. Moreover, families who benefit from the program must agree to increase exposure through media outlets such as magazines, newspapers, and television. Read the rest of this entry »

Today, sustainability is a growing concern for the architects, designers, builders, and owners of commercial and residential buildings. Meeting the requirements of a rating system provides a metric to evaluate and set priorities. But the variety and complexity of methods available to assess the eco-friendliness of a building can seem overwhelming.
Guide to Green Building Rating Systems informs readers about the rating system selection process. Comparing essential issues such as cost, ease of use, and building performance, this book offers solid guidance that will help readers find the rating system that best fits their needs. WASHINGTON, D.C. – While the plight of homeowners affected by the real estate meltdown has been well-documented, renters too often fall under the radar. LHFH Hosts Annual Lakeland Area Chamber of Commerce Breakfast

On October 9, 2009 Lakeland Habitat for Humanity hosted the annual Chamber Breakfast, an event that is designed to promote a networking opportunity and awareness about the host.  We had an overflowing attendance with 40 people showing up to learn about Lakeland Habitat for Humanity.

The Treasure Hunt

On September 25, 2009 We hosted a “Treasure Hunt“. The event drew a large crowd and included many activities for children while their parents were made aware of the many resources available in the Lakeland area including Lakeland Electic, and the Sherrif’s Department. The event was sponsored by many local businesses. Many thanks to each of them for a tremendous job!

Lakeland Chamber Event: My First Breakfast
By Jack Duncan | Published: October 8, 2009

I really enjoyed my first Lakeland Chamber of Commerce Business & Breakfast at 7:30am this morning at Lakeland Habitat for Humanity 1317 George Jenkins Blvd.

OK, 7:30 in the am is a bit early for me to be out and about (unless I’m going to Disney World!), but this IS businees & BREAKFAST. Chamber staffers Amy Wiggins (membership account exec) and Christine Murphy (admin. asst) cheerily greeted me at the door and pointed me toweard the coffee . There were about 40 of the other local shakers and movers grabbing some yogurt, bagels, sausage biscuits and the like while doing the morning networking thing.

I met local Realtor Janet Shearer (read her Polk County Real Estate blog here) and we talked for awhile. She just got her first internet marketing lead! It’s thrilling to meet sharp local entrepreneurs getting results from marketing online :) Keep up the good work, Janet!

The chambers’ Champions mentor newbie members like me and I got to visit with one of ‘em, Wade Altman, business support specialist with Superior Business Technologies. They sell and service computer systems, networks, telephone systems and security system for small businesses like mine. Good to know!
